Where are the Mining Jobs?

Question:
An acquaintance tells me that there are some very remote workplaces (such as active mining towns) in which a person who is prepared to work very hard (and long) can expect to earn well in excess of Au$ 1,000 / week (with modest home costs).

Where are some of these places? ...and how to track down some of the opportunities there?

Answer:
My brother used to work in a little place called Tieri (a little north east of Emerald which is about 3 to 400 km west of Rockhampton, Qld). Many mines in this area. I used to work in Cloncurry, Qld (due west of Townsville by about 8 or 900 km). Also many mines and then there is Mount Isa. May of these mines are owned by Mount Isa Mines (MIM) and BHP.

Well in WA you'd be starting off on that for most jobs, its usually 3 on 1 off or something similar.. but $1k/wk isn't a massive amount there considering the working coditions and stuff.

Had a friend went up there to do unskilled labour (drive a ute and do general equipment cleaning etc) he worked 12 hours a day 6 or 7 days a week for $1.5k a week if i remember rightly..

If you want a kickarse job do geology at tafe or something. Had a friend did this and went to the mines for work experience.. was on 2/3 award wage @1k/wk standard hour job too 9->5... pretty sweet !!

This is in WA, its probably the better place to look. If you can get a look at the west australian paper.. www.thewest.com.au i think.. look at professional appointments, there are usually a few mining jobs.. probalby not what you are looking for but it give a couple companies to ring...

If you want sweet work, look for oil companies too... get a job in indo or china or somewhere in asia .. get paid a SHITE load and live for next to nothing..
